    Kestin Hare is a brand that we've been huge fans of for the past few years. Championing new-age Scottish design combined with British manufacturing, we are excited to introduce it into our mix for the first Autumn season in our new store. 

    We had a chat with Kestin himself to talk about one of the most exciting emerging British menswear brands and what makes his creative brain tick. 


    TUP: Describe Kestin Hare in your own words.

    KH: A Scottish menswear brand, championing UK quality manufacturing. Designed in Leith, the creative heart of Edinburgh, we have a clean aesthetic and are known for focusing on unique fabrics, great fit and clever detailing.


    TUP: What's your favourite thing about the brand that you've created?

    KH: This is what I have always wanted to do, really, so I feel incredibly lucky to do something that I love and creating something that people buy into. I am so connected to the product and want our customers to value what we do. It's not just a job, having a fashion brand is a lifestyle; the travel, the relationships. I'm building something that is growing with me and my family. I am proud of coming from Scotland and I'm delighted to be back here, surrounded by friends and family, working hard to build a unique take on modern Scottish design. 


    TUP: Who / What / Where inspires you the most? 

    KH: There is a high emphasis on vintage research as well as using the most unique and technologically advanced fabrics. I want to create collections that are more than just product to make sure that our brand makes an emotional connection with our customers. Every collection tells a story, weaving in Scottish references of the past and making them relevant for today. I've just come back from a trip to Mountain Heritage Collection up in the Highlands where there were hundreds of boxes of rare garments. I was like a kid on Christmas day unpacking those and hearing the stories about the men who wore them. 


    TUP: What has been your proudest moment with the brand so far? 

    KH: Being interviewed by Monocle Radio for The Entrepreneurs show was a real highlight. Having your own business is such a roller coaster but it resonates when other people are inspired by what you do. I look at what I have created, a strong brand, two stores in amazing cities, brilliant wholesale accounts across the globe, a growing ecommerce business and I think yeah, I’ve achieved a lot, but I am still hungry to do more.


    TUP: What is your process when creating new products for the brand?

    KH: I travel around the world sourcing fabrics and rare vintage pieces. I listen to our customers to hear what they want and need. It's important to have a blend of easy and special pieces in every collection that work for all of our retail partners and our customers. After over 17 years of working with the best factories, I also push their capabilities to develop products that truly standout and last. Small production runs ensuring brand integrity and quality output is maintained. 


    TUP: What's next for you personally and for the brand? 

    KH: To challenge the preconceptions of Scottish design and produce collections that are made in the UK, are wearable and of the highest quality. We are really hitting our stride now and building our place in the market. We know exactly who we are and who our customer is. Everything is very natural. Things are happening organically and we are collaborating with other brands that are a great fit for us. We are exploring what manufacturing more in Scotland could look like.
